Change is Inevitable

Change is inevitable. I had a feeling I wasn't picking the right brick. Although I loved the other brick & it had an "old" look, I felt like it was a bit too pastel/pink and didn't go with my color scheme. Thank goodness I realized it before it was too late! I also went with a similar gray color for the siding but different from the color I showed in my previous post. Things have been moving so quickly and it is so exciting to see your plans actually come to fruition.

                                          SO happy with the brick!!!!

The brick is from Acme brick and is called Autumn Sunset.
Siding color is Farrell Calhoun color matched to Benjamin Moore "Copley Gray"
Trim color is Farrell Calhoun color matched to Benjamin Moore "Cloud Nine"

My dream crank-out windows! Swoon!!!!

Carter giving a thumbs up for sheet rocking!!

Bricking and sheet rocking are almost complete. Our builder is rocking and rolling!

A Little Thing Called a Slab!

Hey, everyone! Exciting things are happening! While we were away on vacation, a little thing you call a slab was poured.  My gracious next door neighbor snagged a picture for us and sent it to us.

Also, while we were away, framing began!!

While we thoroughly enjoyed our vacation, we were anxious to get home and see the progress! We drove straight to the lot before we even went home! They had started framing the second floor.

It's all went pretty quickly!

So I've had to make some decisions regarding shingle color, brick color, siding color, and trim color. A few of these colors I already knew what I wanted. The others.....well not so much.  I feel added pressure to get it right, so to speak, since I have the opportunity to choose.

This is the front door I've wanted since I first downloaded the Houzz app. I'm in love with it! My door won't have the 8 panes of glass but it will have 6.

As far as siding goes, I knew I wanted a shade of gray. I think I'm going with Sherwin Williams Anonymous. It's not too light, nor too dark, and it has a warm undertone.

Now here is the tricky little beast we call brick. We drove around relentlessly looking at brick. Then we went to the showroom to look at samples. We came up with three that were contenders. Seeing them on a sample and in person are two different things. They gave us a list of where we could see the brick at.  It's a long story but here is the brick we went with. We like that it looks old. As you can see, the sample looks different than it does on the building. I'm hoping that's because of the difference in the color of mortar used.

Hoping this all will go together and look the way I'm hoping for.  Ideally I would've had the brick painted to match my siding but that's not in the budget. I guess worse case scenario I don't love it and I'll have it painted in the future. Feel free to leave comments and/or suggestions! :)

Welcome!

Hi, everyone!

I decided to start a blog so that I could share our home building experience with you all. For those of you who don't know this already, I have a love for old homes, especially Craftsmans and Bungalows! I would love to buy an old home and renovate it, however, in our area of Northwest,MS, there aren't many old homes available like that to buy. The next best thing is to build a new, old house. My goal is to make our new home have the look and feel of an old Craftsman/Bungalow, with charm and character, but with a few updates.

I started off by searching for the perfect house plan. After searching relentlessly, I found an awesome plan.

Although I love this plan, there were a few changes I wanted to make. Then, when we met with our builder, he informed us the foundation for this house will be very expensive. The solution to this was to take our plans to be re-drawn. Although the plans are different than what I've shown up above, that is the basic gist of the house, so you all can have an idea of what it'll look like. We just signed our contract and are SO excited!.

Everyone has been asking where we are building. I'm not going to put it on here, as this is a public forum. However, I will say it is Hernando and I will leave you with a picture of the beautiful, treed lot.
